Change
Change has always been a debated topic. Some people
advocate for change and switching up everything. Others despise change and feel
like everything is changing at much too quick of a pace. We humans as a species
are a.) not particularly fond of change in any way shape or form or b.) looking
for the fastest way to implement it.
Some things in the world undoubtedly need to
change, such as the poor treatment of earth and its wildlife, bullying of
others, or the widespread poverty in portions in the world. On the flipside of
the coin, some things are okay the way they are. Why try to fix something if it
isn't broken? In the novel Room by
Emma Donoghue, Jack has definitely shown us that he leans much more heavily toward
the second option. Being in Room was fine and dandy to him, why does he have to
be in the outside and be forced to make all these changes and not be able to
spend time with Ma?
Once Jack grows more accustomed to life in the real
world though, he’ll hopefully be able to realize how much he’s been missing out
on while being confined in the 11x11 space called Room. Jack is essentially the
frog in the bottom of the well in my previous blogpost. With more time, he’ll
hopefully be able to adjust to this new life he’s leading outside of room.
I personally have always been okay with
change. The motto variety is the spice of
life is one that I’m quite fond of and has always stuck with me. What are your
views on change? What things do you think need to change ASAP/ what things are
okay now and should stay the way they are?
i think Change is something that people are very often resistant to because it is comforting to know what is going on and change disrupts routines and can make people feel a lack of control. I think change is necessary and going to be increasingly important as we develop new technologies and we especially need to adopt change to protect the environment because the current routine of our world is causing the destruction of the planet.
ReplyDeleteDespite not wanting it, I was very surprised to see how well Jack is handles change (given his previous situation). Everything that we take for granted is new to him. Personally I like routine but appreciate a shift in people and location every couple of years. Change usually gets a bad rep but I think it is beneficial to have it.
